Bacolod crash involving PI-C626

No fatalities • Bacolod, Philippines • Takeoff (climb)

An Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante experienced a loss of control during takeoff from Bacolod, resulting in a crash landing and minor injuries.

What happened

A non-scheduled flight operated by an unnamed carrier was traveling from Manila to Cebu with several scheduled stops at Marinduque, Iloilo, and Bacolod. The journey proceeded without incident until the departure from Bacolod at 12:10 local time.

Immediately after takeoff, while the Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante had reached an altitude of approximately 5 to 8 feet, the aircraft experienced a sudden left bank. The pilot attempted to recover the aircraft's attitude, but these efforts failed to stabilize the flight. To prevent a more catastrophic event, the pilot executed a controlled crash landing.

Upon impact, a fire ignited which caused significant damage to the forward section of the airframe. While there were no fatalities, the pilot and several passengers sustained minor injuries during the accident.

Findings

Investigations into the accident determined that the primary reason for the loss of control was that the captain initiated a climb before the aircraft had reached the required V2 safety speed. Additionally, the presence of a crosswind measuring between 25 and 30 mph was identified as a contributing factor to the instability during the takeoff roll.

Probable cause

The pilot attempted to lift the aircraft off the runway before reaching the necessary V2 climb speed.
