What happened
On the afternoon of the incident, a flight departed from San Marcos Airport at 16:21 local time, with its intended destination being Cartagena. During the flight, at approximately 17:16 local time, the crew established contact with Air Traffic Control to report encountering adverse weather characterized by cumulonimbus clouds. At this time, the pilot requested authorization to alter the flight path to avoid these meteorological conditions.
Following this final radio communication, the aircraft disappeared from radar. The wreckage was subsequently located in an uninhabited region situated near Hato Nuevo. The impact resulted in 29 fatalities, with no survivors reported among the occupants of the aircraft type.
