What happened
A twin engine aircraft crashed on the slopes of Mt Loma Prieta, situated approximately 15 miles south of San José. During the flight, the aircraft made contact with power cables before striking the mountain at an elevation of 3,786 feet. The impact was severe enough to result in the total destruction of the airframe.
There were four fatalities recorded in the accident, as all members of the crew perished during the crash. At the time of the incident, environmental conditions were characterized by poor visibility.
Findings
The primary factor identified in the sequence of events was the aircraft's collision with overhead power lines prior to hitting the terrain.
