What happened
During a nighttime approach to Millington under adverse weather conditions, the pilot of the aircraft reported an emergency due to the loss of an engine. While on final approach, the crew determined that the plane was not correctly aligned with the runway and initiated a go-around procedure.
A subsequent landing attempt took place amidst thunderstorm activity. During this second approach, the aircraft entered a stall, leading it to strike a pecan tree before crashing near houses on Hill Street. Upon impact with the ground, the aircraft's right wing was severed, and the wreckage subsequently caught fire. Despite the intensity of the post-crash fire, all 33 occupants managed to evacuate the plane without injury.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor leading to the crash was an engine failure occurring during the final approach phase.
