What happened

During an approach to Phônsavan, a twin engine aircraft was targeted by Pathet Lao ground fire, consisting of either small arms or anti-aircraft artillery. The impact of the fire resulted in the loss of one of the aircraft's wings, causing the plane to crash approximately 6 km northwest of Phônsavan.

Out of the eight crew members on board, seven fatalities were recorded. One member of the crew survived the incident but was captured and held as a prisoner of war. The flight was operated by the 315th AD.

Findings

The investigation concluded that the aircraft was shot down by enemy action during its descent toward the airfield.
