What happened
A twin-engine aircraft departed from the Miranda-Estância Caimam Airfield at 09:15 local time, operating as a charter service bound for Campo Grande. The flight was carrying a total of nine people, consisting of two pilots and seven passengers.
Roughly 35 minutes into the journey, while the aircraft was positioned 79 km from its intended destination, the left engine ceased functioning. Despite the favorable weather conditions present at the time, the crew encountered significant difficulties managing the failure. Specifically, the crew was unable to feather the propeller following the engine loss. Due to the inability to maintain a stable altitude, the pilot initiated an emergency descent to perform a forced landing.
The aircraft performed a belly landing within an agricultural field. Following the impact, the plane slid for several dozen meters before coming to a complete stop. While the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, there were no fatalities. All nine occupants sustained only minor injuries during the incident.
Findings
- The primary issue was the failure of the left engine during the cruise phase of flight.
- The crew's inability to successfully feather the propeller prevented the aircraft from maintaining sufficient altitude to continue the flight.
