What happened
During a nighttime approach to Hanover-Langenhagen Airport, an aircraft became unstable while approaching runway 09R. In response to the deteriorating flight conditions, the crew attempted to execute a go-around procedure. However, during this transition, the aircraft experienced a stall and subsequently crashed short of the runway.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. Both members of the flight crew sustained fatal injuries during the accident.
Findings
Investigations into the crash revealed that the stability of the aircraft was compromised by internal factors at a critical moment. It was determined that the cargo within the aircraft shifted during the period when the crew initiated the go-around maneuver. This shift in weight distribution contributed to the loss of control. Additionally, it was noted that the aircraft's configuration was incorrect for the maneuver, as the flaps were set at only 11° instead of the required 26%.
