At approximately 05:00 local time, a single-engine aircraft began a positioning flight from San José-Alajuela-Juan Santamaria Airport. The flight was intended to relocate the plane to the Liberia-Daniel Oduber Quiros Airport, situated in the Guanacaste cordillera.

Roughly 30 minutes after takeoff, the aircraft went down in the vicinity of Monteverde National Park. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the plane. The pilot, who was the only person on board at the time of the accident, sustained fatal injuries.
