An aircraft crashed into a wooded area near Moscow-Domodedovo Airport during its initial climb after experiencing a rudder failure during taxiing.

What happened

During taxiing operations at Moscow-Domodedovo Airport, the aircraft encountered significant crosswinds which resulted in the rudder becoming stuck in the full left position. Following this mechanical issue, the flight engineer advised the pilot to return to the apron so that a technical inspection could be performed. However, the pilot elected to proceed with the departure.

After departing from runway 32L, the aircraft began its climb but reached an altitude of approximately 24 metres before losing control. The plane subsequently crashed into a wooded area situated 365 metres beyond the end of the runway. The accident resulted in five fatalities and two serious injuries.
