What happened
A cargo flight transporting 46 tons of humanitarian supplies intended for refugees in Darfur departed from Sharjah Airport, with a planned stop in Khartoum. The aircraft, a four-engine transport, was operated as a delivery mission for aid. During the approach to Khartoum-Haj Yusuf Airport, the flight crew encountered difficulties regarding fuel levels and communicated an emergency status to air traffic control.
Following the report of fuel issues, the aircraft went down in a desert area situated approximately 15 km east of Khartoum, near the Ad Babkr District. The impact occurred roughly 800 metres from the district boundary. The aircraft suffered structural disintegration upon hitting the ground. There were seven fatalities among the occupants, which included six Russian crew members and one Sudanese translator.
