What happened
On November 27, 2023, at approximately 19:00 UTC, a PZL 106-6 01-BT, registration LV-WPP, was engaged in an agricultural flight operation near Añatuya, Santiago del Estero. The aircraft was transiting to a work site when the crew experienced a sudden loss of engine power. Unable to maintain flight, the pilot performed an emergency landing in an unprepared field located in the Campo Rosso area.
While the aircraft sustained significant damage during the impact, there were no fatalities or injuries reported among the crew or any other persons involved in the event.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted an intervention following the established procedures for civil aviation accident and incident investigations. The investigation focused on the mechanical performance of the engine group during the flight phase. The aircraft was operating under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) on a flight path originating from and returning to the Añatuya Aeroclub.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was a failure or malfunction within the engine group.
- The loss of power occurred while the aircraft was navigating to its designated agricultural work area.
- The landing took place on an unprepared surface, contributing to the level of damage sustained by the airframe.
