What happened
On October 7, 2025, at approximately 13:30 UTC, an Ayres S2R (registration LV-WZM) was engaged in specialized agricultural spraying operations near San Ramón de la Nueva Orán, in the province of Salta, Argentina. During the flight, the aircraft experienced a powerplant failure or malfunction.
In response to the engine issue, the pilot executed an emergency landing in an unprepared field. While the aircraft was brought to a stop safely, the impact resulted in substantial damage to the airframe. The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, sustained no injuries during the event.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) initiated an investigation into the mechanical failure of the engine group. The preliminary inquiry focused on the technical aspects of the powerplant and the circumstances surrounding the flight phase. Investigators examined the aircraft's maintenance history and the specific nature of the engine malfunction to determine why the failure occurred during the operational mission.
