What happened
On May 18, 2022, at approximately 17:00 UTC, a Tecnam P2002-JF, registration LV-S105, was performing a general aviation pleasure flight from Sauce Viejo Airport (SAAV) to San Fernando International Airport (SADF). During the landing phase, immediately after the aircraft made contact with the runway, the aircraft experienced an unexpected and sudden deceleration. The aircraft continued to brake autonomously until it came to a complete stop on the runway.
The investigation
Following the incident, the pilot conducted a physical inspection of the aircraft in coordination with airport personnel. During this post-landing assessment, the pilot discovered that the parking brake had been engaged during the landing roll. There were no injuries to the two occupants on board, and the aircraft sustained no damage during the event.
Findings
- The primary cause of the sudden deceleration was the unintentional application of the parking brake during the landing phase.
- The aircraft was operating under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC).
- No mechanical failures or structural damages were identified following the inspection.
