What happened
On September 22, 2020, a Fairchild SA-227AC Metro III, registration LV-YIC, was performing a non-scheduled commercial flight from San Julián to Trelew Airport in Chubut, Argentina. During the landing roll at Almirante Marcos A. Zar Airport, the pilot observed an overtemperature indication pertaining to the right engine. In response to this indication, the pilot elected to bring the aircraft to a halt on the runway.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) reviewed the technical details of the event, noting that the aircraft remained on the runway following the engine indication. Investigators confirmed that once the engine temperature had decreased and returned to normal operating parameters, the pilot proceeded to taxi the aircraft to the apron without further incident. The investigation assessed the mechanical state of the aircraft and the nature of the engine fluctuation.
Findings
- The primary cause of the landing roll interruption was an overtemperature indication in the right engine.
- There were no injuries reported for the two crew members on board.
- The aircraft sustained no damage during the event.
- The incident did not pose a threat to operational safety, leading the national authority to conclude the investigation and move for the archiving of the proceedings.
