What happened
During an approach to Posadas-Libertador General José de San Martín Airport, the flight crew encountered heavy fog that significantly reduced visibility. While the crew was unable to visually identify the runway, the decision was made to proceed with the approach. During the landing phase, the aircraft touched down on a taxiway situated parallel to the active runway.
Following the touchdown, the aircraft traveled approximately 800 metres along the taxiway before an excursion occurred. The momentum of the overrun caused the aircraft to lose its undercarriage. The incident resulted in zero fatalities and zero injuries to the two pilots on board, who both managed to exit the wreckage safely. The aircraft sustained heavy damage and was declared a total loss.
Findings
- The primary factor in the incident was the decision to continue the approach despite the lack of visual contact with the runway due to fog.
