What happened
On June 13, 2010, an L-44 amphibious aircraft, registration RA-0600G, was conducting training flights near the Bolshoye Gryzlovo landing site under favorable meteorological conditions. The aircraft, owned by a private individual, was carrying two passengers. The flight departed from the landing site at 10:11 MSK (06:11 UTC). After takeoff, the pilot flew to Pavlenskoye Lake, located approximately 17 km northwest of the airfield, and landed there at 06:21.
Following a brief period of swimming, the pilot initiated a takeoff from the lake at 06:38. During the climb, at an altitude of approximately 70 meters, the aircraft entered a descent. The aircraft transitioned into a dive with a pitch angle of roughly 30 degrees and a left bank of 5 to 10 degrees, ultimately striking the ground. The impact caused the aircraft to break apart and catch fire. The accident occurred 1.2 km south of the village of Mirny in the Serpukhov district of the Moscow region. All three people on board—the pilot and two passengers—were killed.
The investigation
Investigators noted that while the airfield administration provided a morning briefing regarding flight conditions, the pilot conducted the pre-flight preparations independently. It was determined that no pre-flight medical examination was performed for the crew. Additionally, the aircraft RA-0600G was not included in the airspace usage application submitted to the Air Traffic Management Center for that day. Evidence from photos and videos taken by the passengers confirmed the aircraft had been drifting on the lake prior to the second takeoff.
