What happened
On the afternoon of October 26, 2019, a Cessna 172H, registration RA-2735G, crashed while performing a general aviation flight. The aircraft was being operated by a private pilot on a route traveling from Nizhneye Gorodishche to Yugo-Kamsky, and finally toward Froly in the Perm region. The flight was conducted under visual meteorological conditions.
During the mission, the aircraft transitioned from Class G airspace to Class C airspace. However, the pilot failed to submit a flight plan to the air traffic control center and did not obtain the required authorization to enter the Class C airspace. There were no passengers or cargo on board at the time of the accident.
The investigation
The investigation examined the flight's adherence to airspace regulations and the pilot's pre-flight procedures. It was noted that the pilot arrived at Nizhneye Gorodishche around 05:30 on the day of the accident to conduct pre-flight preparations. While the pilot did not undergo a formal pre-flight medical examination, investigators determined this did not violate existing regulations, as the pilot was authorized to make the decision to fly under the applicable rules for that specific location.
Findings
- The pilot operated the aircraft in Class C airspace without obtaining the necessary permission or submitting a flight plan.
- The flight was conducted for general aviation purposes with no passengers or cargo on board.
