What happened
On May 31, 2015, an aircraft arrived at the Volzhsky Park of Culture and Leisure in Volzhsky to perform a series of aerobatic maneuvers. The flight was part of an open motocross championship celebrating the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The pilot, who also owned the aircraft, had coordinated the flight plan with his brother, one of the event organizers, but had not obtained official authorization from the Volzhsky city administration.
The pilot departed at 08:45 and arrived at the motocross track area at 09:00. During the performance of various simple and complex aerobatic figures, the aircraft struck the ground. The impact caused partial destruction of the airframe. There were no injuries to the pilot, and no fires were reported on the ground following the impact.
The investigation
The pilot provided testimony stating that he was aware the flight had not been formally approved by local authorities. The flight was intended to be a demonstration for the event attendees.
