On April 24, 2022, a pilot-in-command (PIC) initiated a training flight in class 'G' airspace from the Gostilitzy landing site in Leningrad Oblast. The aircraft, a Kronavia-8 with registration RA-0333G, had been refueled to capacity following a previous flight on April 22, 2022. The pilot submitted a flight plan via email at 11:27 on the day of the event.
Prior to departure, the pilot assessed weather conditions independently using the internet and a wind indicator at the landing site, rather than contacting the official weather information service at the Gostilitzy point. The pilot took off from the Gostilitly landing site at 12:55. At 12:58:45, the pilot contacted Saint Petersburg-Region air traffic control to report the departure and intended flight path toward the Gulf of Finland.
After completing the flight portion over the Gulf of Finland, the pilot contacted air traffic control again at 13:29:26, stating an intention to land at Petrovsky in approximately 40 minutes. During the landing phase, the aircraft encountered significant crosswind conditions.
There were no injuries or fatalities reported in the incident. The aircraft veered off the runway following the landing attempt.
