On September 12, 2018, a Shmelk Z-37, registration RA-1349G, crashed in the area of the Tagay settlement in the Ulyanovsk region. The aircraft was being operated under a contract for the aerial chemical treatment of a field using the desiccant 'Reglon Super'.
The pilot and an assistant had arrived at the base in Podlesnoye on September 10, 2018. On the morning of the accident, the pilot performed the pre-flight maintenance, inspection, and refueling of the RA-1349G. A representative of the customer assisted with the loading of the desiccant.
Flights were scheduled to take place in Class G airspace during the first half of the day. However, the required notification for the use of airspace was not submitted to the air traffic control authorities prior to the flight.
The accident resulted in one fatality, the pilot. Due to the death of the pilot and a lack of objective flight data, much of the flight history was reconstructed from third-party accounts.
