On August 21, 2020, the pilot of the Sky Ranger-Severyok, registration RA-0250A, prepared for two planned flights in class G airspace. The first flight was intended to assess weather conditions near the Amderma settlement, while the second flight was planned to travel from Amderma to Karataika with a passenger on board.
Prior to the flight, the pilot arrived at the aircraft base located approximately 1.8 km east of the runway 25 threshold at the Amderma airfield. During this time, the pilot performed refueling, loaded baggage, and completed pre-flight preparations. The pilot did not undergo a pre-flight medical examination.
The aircraft was not equipped with objective flight control monitoring equipment, aside from an In Reach Explorer tracker. Information regarding the flight history was reconstructed using witness accounts, pilot explanations, and internet video material.
During the flight, the pilot failed to notify air traffic control authorities of the planned activities, which is a violation of Federal Aviation Regulations regarding the use of class G airspace. The accident occurred in the area of the meteorological station on Cape Bely Nos.
