On August 19, 2016, a crew arrived at the Romanovskaya airfield in the Rostov region to conduct training flights in preparation for an upcoming aviation and sports event. The crew performed pre-flight preparations for the SP-01 (KP) aircraft, registration RA-0093А, and obtained weather information from the Volgodonsk-tower air traffic control unit. The flight was conducted within Class G airspace.
Prior to the flight, the captain authorized the crew to fly independently. Under the applicable regulations, a pre-flight medical examination was not performed because the airfield lacked an authorized medical professional. The aircraft was reported to be in good working order and fully staffed according to technical documentation.
During the flight operations, which began at 14:00, the crew members rotated positions. The pilot in the right seat had previously completed three 15-minute training flights as captain before switching seats with the captain, who took the left seat for the final flight.
During the execution of flight maneuvers, the aircraft entered a stall. The incident occurred at an extremely low altitude during the flight phase.
