What happened
While performing a ferry flight traveling from Atlanta toward Augusta, the crew experienced a simultaneous loss of power in both engines. As the aircraft was on its final approach to Augusta Airport, the dual engine flameout forced the crew to attempt an emergency landing. During this maneuver, the aircraft type (unspecified) struck several trees before impacting rough terrain.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the plane. Both occupants on board sustained two serious injuries during the accident.
Findings
Investigations into the crash determined that the primary reason for the dual engine failure was fuel exhaustion. Several contributing factors were identified regarding the flight's preparation and execution, including:
- Failure to properly manage fuel levels
- Lack of attention to the remaining fuel supply
- Inadequate preflight procedures
- The presence of rough terrain at the crash site
