What happened
During the final approach to runway 33 at Araxá-Romeu Zema Airport, a twin-engine aircraft experienced a landing accident. The aircraft touched down several dozen meters before the newly established displaced threshold, an area that contained active construction work.
As the plane moved along the runway, the left main landing gear made contact with an excavation site located in the pre-threshold zone. The impact caused the left gear to be completely detached from the airframe. Following the loss of the gear, the left wing and the left engine made contact with the ground. The aircraft then veered toward the left side of the runway, traveling approximately 200 meters before coming to a complete stop.
Findings
- The primary cause of the accident was the left main gear striking an excavation in the construction area near the runway threshold.
- There were zero fatalities among the seven people on board, as all occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft safely.
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
