What happened
During a local training operation in the Trängslet area, an aircraft was performing duties as a moving target for the Swedish Army. While operating at a low altitude, the aircraft's left wing made contact with a pine tree, causing part of the wing to be severed. This impact led to a rapid loss of altitude, and the aircraft crashed approximately 500 meters from the initial point of impact. The accident resulted in two fatalities, as both pilots on board were killed.
Findings
Official investigations into the crash identified that the aircraft was flying at an insufficient altitude during the mission. The investigation highlighted two potential contributing factors: a tendency among the crew to operate below the required altitude, and the possibility that cockpit distractions or external ground-based factors may have compromised the crew's attention.
