What happened
During the final approach to Istanbul-Atatürk Airport, an aircraft descended to an altitude that was too low for a safe landing. The aircraft made contact with the ground several hundred meters before reaching the runway threshold. The force of the impact caused the landing gear to be ripped from the airframe, and the plane subsequently slid on its belly until it came to a stop.
There were six people on board during the incident. All occupants managed to evacuate the aircraft without sustaining any injuries. While the passengers and crew were safe, the aircraft was determined to be a total loss.
Findings
Investigation into the event indicates that the crew did not maintain a sufficient altitude during the approach phase. The primary factor in the undershoot was the failure to maintain a safe altitude while approaching the runway.
