What happened
On the date of the occurrence, an aircraft departed from the Trieben airfield (LOG/LOGI) carrying a pilot and four passengers, including two tandem skydivers. During the climb to flight level 130, the aircraft encountered a rapidly developing cloud formation near the intended jump point. Although visibility had been good initially, the encounter led to a sudden and total loss of visual reference.
In an attempt to regain visual contact with the ground, the pilot initiated a 180-degree turn. However, this maneuver failed to clear the cloud layer, leading the aircraft into an uncontrolled flight state. The aircraft subsequently returned to the Trieben airfield for landing. There were no injuries reported among the five occupants.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the sequence of events leading to the loss of control and the resulting impact on the airframe. Examination of the aircraft revealed structural damage, specifically concentrated around the connections of the wing struts.
