What happened
On April 1, 2014, a Cessna T210L, registered as N-732JY, was involved in an aviation accident in the Aldea El Carrizal area, located within the municipality of Esquipulas Palo Gordo, San Marcos, Guatemala. The aircraft was engaged in flight operations when it impacted the ground, resulting in the destruction of the airframe.
The investigation
The investigation conducted by the Guatemalan Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) examined the circumstances surrounding the impact and the condition of the aircraft. Maintenance records from Red Eagle Aviation, Inc., dated May 201 and May 30, 2014, provided insight into recent work performed on the engine and airframe.
Records indicate that prior to the accident, the aircraft had undergone extensive engine maintenance, including the replacement of five cylinders and pistons. During this period, technicians also addressed issues with turbocharger check valves, replaced spark plugs, and performed nose gear maintenance, including the replacement of a tire tube and a broken turn stop-limit pin. Additionally, inspections noted minor skin deformation near the wing jack pad mounts, though no cracks were found at that time.
