What happened
On July 12, 2019, at approximately 20:50 UTC, a Boeing 737-300 operated by Belavia (registration EW-366PA) was executing flight BRU847 from Minsk to Kyiv Zhuliany. Upon landing on Runway 26, the aircraft failed to stop within the designated runway limits and overran onto the end safety area.
The aircraft traveled an additional distance of 86 meters beyond the threshold of Runway 08 before coming to a complete stop. The incident occurred during the final phase of the landing operation.
The investigation
The National Bureau for Civil Aviation Accidents Investigation (NBAAI) initiated a serious incident investigation into the event. The inquiry focused on determining the operational and environmental factors that contributed to the runway excursion.
Findings
The primary outcome of the overrun was structural damage to the aircraft's undercarriage. Despite the severity of the ground impact, there were no fatalities or injuries reported among the passengers and crew. The investigation established that while the aircraft remained on the airfield grounds, the excursion represented a significant safety breach requiring formal regulatory review.
