What happened
On 14 June 2000, at approximately 0950 UTC, a Piper PA-31-350, registration G-BMBC, was involved in an occurrence in the Mersey Estuary, situated west of the Runway 09 threshold at Liverpool Airport.
The investigation
The investigation into this matter involved a formal correction to the previously published AAIB records. The amendment specifically addresses the context of previous flight operations related to the aircraft. The correction clarifies that the operational necessity for certain flight parameters was driven by a DHSS requirement, which mandated that the aircraft be operated by a holder of a valid Air Operator's Certificate.
Findings
Through this corrigendum, the AAIB has established that the original report contained phrasing that inaccurately described the maintenance status of the aircraft during the period in question. The corrected record confirms that the requirement for specific operational oversight was a matter of regulatory compliance regarding the Air Operator's Certificate.
