What happened
During a night operation at Newnan-Coweta County Airport, an aircraft was performing a localizer approach for runway 32. Following an initial missed approach, the pilot notified air traffic control of the intent to attempt a second approach. The aircraft was subsequently provided with radar vectors to intercept the final approach course for runway 32.
Radar tracking showed the aircraft continuing its descent toward the airport. Approximately 4 nautical miles from the airfield, the aircraft disappeared from radar contact. At the moment communication and radar tracking were lost, the aircraft was at an altitude of 1,600 feet MSL. The aircraft eventually struck trees measuring 80 feet in height while positioned roughly 1.3 nautical miles from the runway threshold. At the time of the incident, the airport was experiencing low visibility of 0.75 statute miles and a cloud ceiling of 200 feet AGL.
Findings
An inspection of the aircraft's engines, propellers, flight controls, and various onboard systems revealed no signs of mechanical failure or malfunction prior to the impact. The investigation found no evidence of structural or system-related issues contributing to the crash.
