What happened
A charter flight traveling from Douala to N'Djamena crashed during its approach to the destination airport. The aircraft, a twin engine plane, was transporting a crew consisting of one pilot and one steward, along with two passengers. As the flight approached N'Djamena, the area was experiencing a sandstorm that significantly reduced visibility.
In an attempt to maintain visual contact with the ground amidst the poor weather, the pilot lowered the aircraft's altitude. During this descent, the plane collided with a tree and went down approximately 3 km from the threshold of runway 05, near Kousséri, Cameroon. The impact resulted in three fatalities and one person sustained serious injuries.
Findings
The crash was precipitated by the pilot's decision to descend below safe altitude to regain visual reference during a sandstorm.
