What happened
A flight originating from Douala, which was scheduled to stop in Djoum before reaching its final destination of Abong Mbang, ended in an accident during the landing phase. The twin engine aircraft was transporting one pilot and five passengers at the time of the incident.
As the aircraft was performing its final approach to the Abong Mbang airfield, the crew encountered severe weather characterized by heavy rain and significantly reduced visibility. During the short final stage of the approach, the aircraft made contact with the ground approximately 60 metres before reaching the runway threshold. The force of the impact caused the undercarriage to be ripped from the airframe, and the aircraft subsequently slid to a stop on its belly.
Despite the structural damage to the aircraft, which was determined to be a total loss, there were zero fatalities and zero injuries reported among the six people on board. All occupants successfully evacuated the wreckage.
Findings
- The primary factor contributing to the accident was the presence of heavy rainfall and the resulting lack of visibility during the approach.
