What happened
During October 2011, a twin-engine airplane departed from Shabunda Airport but encountered mechanical difficulties shortly after liftoff. The crew notified authorities of engine problems and initiated an immediate return to the airfield.
Upon landing, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. The plane overran the landing area and eventually collided with an embankment. While the 16 passengers on board were able to exit the wreckage without injury, both pilots sustained injuries during the incident. The impact resulted in the aircraft being declared a total loss.
Findings
- The aircraft experienced engine malfunctions during the initial climb phase.
- The inability to stop within the runway limits led to the subsequent collision with the embankment.
