What happened
On the morning of the incident, a single-engine aircraft departed from Balota (Drobeta) Aerodrome at 09:30 local time. The flight was being conducted as a spraying mission for the Department of Forestry, covering a wooded region. On board the aircraft were two pilots and one passenger.
After approximately 50 minutes of operation, following several low-altitude passes over the target area, the aircraft's engine began to lose power. In response to the mechanical issue, the crew initiated a 180-degree turn to attempt a return to Balota Aerodrome. During this maneuver, the engine ceased functioning entirely.
The crew performed an emergency landing in an open field. Upon touchdown, the aircraft continued to roll for approximately 130 metres before the left main landing gear collapsed, bringing the plane to a final stop. While the aircraft sustained damage beyond repair, all three occupants managed to exit the wreckage uninjured.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the emergency landing was the loss of engine power during the flight.
