What happened
During an approach to Joinville Airport at an altitude of approximately 7,000 feet, the flight crew decided to cancel their IFR flight plan and proceed using VFR procedures. Shortly after this transition, the aircraft encountered significant atmospheric turbulence. This weather disturbance led to a loss of control, resulting in the aircraft crashing in the vicinity of Gavura, located roughly 24 km northwest of the airport.
Findings
- The aircraft was completely destroyed upon impact.
- There were five fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft.
- The primary factor in the accident was the loss of control during turbulence.
