What happened
During a long-range delivery mission traveling from South Africa to the United States, an aircraft was transiting through Luanda and São Tomé. The flight was being operated by a single pilot who was the only occupant on board.
Upon touchdown at São Tomé Airport, the aircraft's left main landing gear failed. This structural failure caused the plane to lose stability on the runway, leading the aircraft to slide on its belly for several dozen meters before coming to a complete stop.
Findings
- The pilot remained uninjured following the incident.
- The primary factor in the accident was the collapse of the left main gear during the landing phase.
