What happened
A charter flight operating from Cuernavaca to Chihuahua, which included a scheduled stop in Torreón, crashed during the descent phase of the flight. The aircraft, carrying a total of eleven people—comprising eight passengers and three crew members—was flying at 10,000 feet after passing the Delicias VOR. During the approach, the crew initiated a descent but did not adhere to the established flight procedures. At an altitude of 7,000 feet, the aircraft type struck the side of a mountain situated approximately 42 km south of Chihuahua Airport. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft and caused 11 fatalities.
Findings
Investigation into the crash indicates that the primary factor was the failure to follow published descent procedures while the aircraft was transitioning from 10,000 feet to lower altitudes. This deviation from standard operating protocols led to the flight path intersecting with mountainous terrain.
