What happened
Following departure from runway 24 via the VALKO procedure, the aircraft encountered an issue during its climb. Upon passing flight level 165, a master warning was activated due to low oil pressure in the right engine. In response, the captain reduced power on the right engine to flight idle and initiated the necessary emergency checklists. Despite completing the procedures, the oil pressure warning light remained illuminated, prompting the crew to divert back to Amsterdam.
During the return, air traffic control provided radar vectors for an ILS approach to runway 06. As the aircraft descended through roughly 200 feet, it drifted to the right of the runway centerline, necessitating a go-around maneuver. During this phase, the crew lost control of the aircraft. At 12:46 UTC, the aircraft type struck the ground in a nose-low attitude with an 80-degree right bank, landing approximately 560 meters to the right of the runway threshold. The accident resulted in three fatalities, including the captain, and nine injuries, with eight passengers and the first officer sustaining serious harm.
Findings
- The flight was operating with the right engine at flight idle due to a persistent oil pressure warning.
- Loss of control during the go-around maneuver led to the impact with the ground.
