What happened
On 23 June 2005, a Jabiru SK, registration ZU-JSJ, was involved in a landing accident at D200 Aerodrome near Cape Town. The flight was a training session involving an instructor and a student pilot. Following an initial flight of the day, the crew attempted a second flight to perform circuit and landing exercises at Fisantekraal Aerodrome. During the maneuvers at Fisantekraal, the aircraft exhibited a slight leftward yaw in several of the landing attempts.
Upon returning to D200 Aerodrome for a landing on Runway 02, the aircraft touched down at an indicated airspeed of 60kt, slightly above the standard 57kt landing speed. Amidst a 5kt left crosswind, the aircraft yawed to the right and veered off the runway. The pilot attempted to correct the deviation with full left rudder, but the aircraft continued its roll parallel to the runway centerline. The main landing gear subsequently entered soft sand, causing the aircraft to ground loop. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the left-hand wing and the main landing gear, though there were 0 fatalities and 0 injuries.
