What happened
During an approach toward Booué Airport, the flight crew encountered adverse weather conditions that prevented a safe landing. Following discussions with Air Traffic Control, which confirmed the presence of poor weather, the decision was made to divert the flight to La Lopé Airport.
Upon arriving at La Lopé, the aircraft landed on a runway surface that was wet. Due to the short length of the runway, which measures only 800 metres, the crew was unable to bring the aircraft to a complete stop within the available distance. This resulted in a runway overrun. As the aircraft exited the paved surface and encountered soft ground, the nose landing gear collapsed. The aircraft continued to roll for approximately 50 metres before eventually coming to a halt in a rocky area.
There were no fatalities among the 16 occupants, all of whom evacuated the aircraft safely. However, the aircraft sustained damage that was determined to be beyond repair.
Findings
- The landing occurred on a wet runway surface.
- The limited length of the 800-metre runway contributed to the inability to stop the aircraft.
