21 Air Boeing 767 Overruns Runway at Miami Airport, Hits Vehicles
A 21 Air Boeing 767-300 freighter operating for Amazon Air overran the runway on landing at Miami International Airport, crossed a road, and struck vehicles. The airport halted operations and there were injuries, according to reports.
A Boeing 767-300 freighter operated by 21 Air for Amazon Air overran the runway after landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6. The aircraft, arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico as flight 2L7598, crossed a busy road, broke through a fence, and came to rest on property beyond it.
The FAA confirmed the overrun occurred around 2 p.m. local time. Authorities said the aircraft struck several vehicles on the road. CBS reported there were various injuries. Videos showed fire and heavy black smoke coming from the freighter. It was not immediately clear whether there were fatalities.
The airport suspended operations after the incident, halted all traffic, and diverted arriving flights. All runways were temporarily closed. Several sources identified the aircraft as Boeing 767-300F, registration N1997A, serial number 27310, more than 32 years old.
