Boeing holds about 30 completed 777-9 airframes awaiting certification

Boeing has roughly 30 completed 777-9 airframes built years before the aircraft reached its final certified configuration, according to a report on the program. They are not simply waiting on engines, interiors and customer acceptance.

Each one must be brought up to delivery configuration, a process Boeing calls change incorporation. The 777-9 was once expected to enter service in 2020. Boeing now expects the first delivery in 2027, and the early airframes are among the program's problems.
