Canada moves closer to buying six Saab GlobalEye aircraft
Saab has signed a non-binding framework agreement with Canada's Defence Investment Agency covering the planned purchase of six GlobalEye surveillance aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force. No firm purchase contract has been concluded.
Canada is moving ahead with plans to buy six Saab GlobalEye aircraft. The Swedish manufacturer and the Canadian Defence Investment Agency have signed a non-binding framework agreement setting out the basis for further negotiations, covering the aircraft's configuration to Canadian requirements, industrial participation, and programme implementation.
The planned acquisition covers six GlobalEye aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force, plus associated systems, training and support. No binding purchase contract exists yet. Canada selected Saab in May 2026 as preferred supplier for its future airborne early warning and control capability. GlobalEye is designed for wide-area detection and identification of potential threats, and provides information in real time.
