Embraer E195-E2 engine size forced wing and landing gear redesign

The Embraer E195-E2's Pratt & Whitney PW1900G engines have a much larger fan than the powerplants they replaced, requiring the airframe to be redesigned around them.

The Embraer E195-E2 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1900G geared turbofan engines, each with a fan diameter of 73 inches (190 cm) and a 12:1 bypass ratio.

That fan is roughly 21 inches (53 cm) wider than the General Electric CF34-10E fitted to the first-generation E195. Accommodating an engine of that size under the wing of a regional jet, which sits close to the ground, was not a matter of bolting a larger powerplant onto the existing airframe.

Embraer instead redesigned the wing, the landing gear, and the gear retraction system around the engine.
