Lufthansa Group is reviewing how its core brand Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and Discover Airlines could work more closely together in future, under the project name Nexus. The newspaper Handelsblatt reported the plans.

Certain tasks that each airline has handled on its own until now could be centralised. Among them is the scheduling of flying staff. The aim is synergies and lower costs.

Nexus is intended to help secure the restructuring of the Lufthansa core brand over the longer term. According to Handelsblatt, there are internal doubts about whether greater centralisation helps with this. Critics fear that City Airlines and Discover Airlines could lose flexibility if they have to hand tasks to the more complex Lufthansa Classic.

At the same time, some executives are calling for even more centralisation across the group. They criticise the airlines for having their own management bodies.
