Nuremberg Airport trains ground staff with virtual reality
Nuremberg Airport is using VR headsets and joysticks to train ground personnel in apron operations, including aircraft handling, pushback, and cockpit communication.

Nuremberg Airport is introducing virtual reality technology for training its ground personnel. Around 50 new employees are trained for apron activities each year, with refresher courses for existing staff. Using VR headsets and joysticks, they can simulate various procedures safely first.\n\nTraining covers handling arriving aircraft, baggage conveyor belts, ground power units, operating tugs, pushback maneuvers, and communication with the cockpit. The simulations also include critical situations and come from Cologne-based provider Draxon. A practice container for hands-on training is planned as a supplement.
