Poland scrambles military aircraft in response to Russian strikes on Ukraine
Poland activated military aircraft and raised the readiness of its ground-based air defence and radar systems as Russian air strikes hit Ukraine. No violation of Polish airspace was recorded.
Poland scrambled military aircraft on Monday, 21 September, in response to Russian air strikes on Ukraine, the armed forces said. Ground-based air defence and radar systems were put on increased readiness at the same time.
The military called the measures preventive. It said they were meant to protect Polish airspace, especially near the threatened regions.
The deployment was later called off and the air defence and radar systems returned to normal operations. The military said it found no violation of Polish airspace.
Poland has sent military jets into the air several times in recent days over Russian attacks near its border.
