Poland to receive four Airbus A330 MRTT tankers by 2030
Poland plans to acquire four Airbus A330 MRTT multi-role tanker transport aircraft by 2030, its defence minister said, with Spain agreeing to cede production slots.
Poland intends to procure four Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft for aerial refuelling and transport duties, according to Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. The jets are expected to be delivered by 2030.
Spain has agreed to give up production slots to allow Poland to receive the aircraft within that timeframe, the minister said. The purchase is part of a wider joint procurement effort under the European SAFE programme, which envisions the acquisition of at least seven A330 MRTT aircraft in total among participating countries.
A final contract for the purchase has not yet been signed, according to the report. For Poland, the tankers are seen as particularly important given the country's planned introduction of the F-35 fighter jet, which will require aerial refuelling support.
Beyond refuelling missions, the A330 MRTT can also be used for troop and passenger transport, offering Poland additional logistical flexibility. No further details on cost or specific delivery schedule beyond the 2030 target were provided.
