Stuttgart airport to install ground power at aircraft stands by 2027
Stuttgart Airport has secured federal funding for PCA units that supply pre-conditioned air to parked aircraft, reducing the need to run auxiliary power units on the ground.
Stuttgart Airport is to equip its bridge stands with Pre-Conditioned Air units by the end of 2027, replacing the need to run aircraft auxiliary power units while parked. The German federal government is providing 2.3 million euros toward the technology, and the airport operator is putting in about 5.8 million euros of its own, according to the airport company.
The electrically powered units cool, heat and ventilate aircraft cabins on the ground. Once they are in service, the airport says greenhouse gas emissions attributed to airlines at the site should fall by roughly 1,500 tonnes a year.
All stands on the air freight apron are already fitted with ground power, the airport added.
